I myself feel like it's already happened (maybe a while ago) and what we're actually seeing in society is the scarcely concealed terror of a huge mass of ostensible Christians fighting off the realization that the core of their belief is empty ~Chara

We have massive problems with executive dysfunction and avoiding unpleasant tasks, and we've been extremely aware of it for years now and yet we still feel some days like we've made no headway against it. We feel like we can keep up with tasks one day, and then the next day we can barely drag ourselves from bed. Attempting to think about many routine jobs brings on a dull roar of bad memories and buried anxieties and we're getting annoyed by the vagueness of that feeling. Isn't there some way to put all that stuff into the past tense? We're constantly taunted by the idea that we can somehow crest this hill, and then we'll not feel always haunted by the stench of past failure. ~Chara

You know, I should watch some more Michelangelo Antonioni. I only ever saw Blow-Up and didn't really get it, but now that I've had a lot more experience of contemporary culture I can see what he was getting at. Antonioni really did seem to have a handle on the strange semi-existence led by people "in society", adrift, who experience moral crises as inconveniences, strange interruptions in their usual wanderings, inexplicable and easily forgotten. ~Chara

Now imagine this being read aloud reverently in a library panelled with exotic hardwoods, with classical music tinkling in the background, while the listeners lean back in their antique (replica) armchairs and puff on their Cuban cigars, and maybe you'll get a sense of what Ayn Rand is all about ~Chara
